Obama Virginia Campaign Files Petitions

Today I was pleased to join with Governor Tim Kaine and other Barack Obama for President volunteers from across Virginia to announce the completion of the petition drive that has made Senator Obama the first presidential candidate, of either party, to turn in petitions required to qualify for the ballot for Virginia's February 12th Democratic presidential primary.

Through the grassroots efforts of Obama's Virginia supporters, the Obama campaign submitted 18,900 signatures, nearly double the required signature total under Virginia law and four times the amount generally required by the Democratic National Committee.

As a "Come-Here Virginian" and a Barack Obama supporter from the beginning, I was especially pleased with Governor Kaine's early endorsement and his serving as a national campaign co-chairman.

My thanks to all those Virginians who took time to sign petitions and to those volunteers and co-ordinators who proved, once again, grassroots politics can get the job done.

Subject: 11/27/07 final signature report --18,900 signatures for Obama in Virginia!

I received a few more envelopes in the mail this morning.  If interested, the following is the breakdown by CD of what will be filed with the State Board of Elections tomorrow:

1st -- 939

2nd -- 827

3rd -- 1,210

4th -- 1,019

5th -- 3,200

6th -- 1,001

7th -- 1,610

8th -- 5,084

9th -- 897

10th -- 929

11th -- 2,184

Yes, that's an even 18,900.   Thank you all so so much.  You did a great job.  This was an extraordinary volunteer effort.  (When was the last time you can think of that a volunteer effort finished weeks ahead of schedule and went way above expectations?!)
