Incurious George Meets The Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Al Gore met with President Bush in the Oval Office today. I think this part of the WashingtonPost.com story says it all:
The two men stood next to other, sharing uncomfortable grins for photographers and reporters, who were quickly ushered in and out.

"Familiar faces," the former vice president said of the media. Bush, still smiling, added nothing.

Dubya's daddy's Supreme Court handed him the election on a silver platter, appropriate for the boy born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Yet he still can't be gracious around Gore? What a small, small man Incurious George is.

Combined IQ between them = approximately 180 (Kindler - 11/26/2007 11:42:26 PM)
Rough breakdown:

Gore = 170
Bush =  10

I love it (TheGreenMiles - 11/26/2007 11:48:02 PM)
Reminds me of Bob Uecker's line from his days on the road with Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews: "Between me and my roommate, we've hit 400 major-league home runs."

Feeling generous towards Shrub today, eh? (Lowell - 11/27/2007 6:55:15 AM)
Ha.

His Daddy's Supreme Court??? (HisRoc - 11/27/2007 12:08:18 AM)
George H. W. Bush appointed two Justices to the Supreme Court:  Clarence Thomas and David Souter.  Thomas voted with the majority in the Rehnquist opinion while Souter voted with the minority and issued his own dissenting opinion.

Please explain how this was "Dubya's daddy's Supreme Court?"

Bush vs. Gore continues to be a Democratic fantasy that the 2000 election was stolen, despite volumes of evidence that Bush won Florida by over 3,000 votes.  Among conspiracy theories, it ranks right up there with the Republican fantasy that John Kennedy won in 1960 because Mayor Richard Daley delivered Illinois by fixing the vote in Chicago.  I feel sorry for people who cannot face reality and have to console themselves in a fictional, alternative universe.

How can I say this? Yes. (TheGreenMiles - 11/27/2007 12:25:35 AM)
In addition to the two directly appointed by H.W., three other justices were appointed and one was elevated to Chief Justice while H.W. was vice president. Think that might be a relevant fact? Or did you overlook that inconvenient truth?

The Florida Ballot Project shows a full recount would've given Florida to Gore. Where's your evidence? Care to cite any?

wtf? (DukieDem - 11/27/2007 1:00:04 PM)
Brown vs. Board of Education was a 'liberal' decision?  I assumed opposing state sponsored racism was mainstream thinking.

Good Citation (Eric - 11/27/2007 2:34:25 PM)
of the NYTimes.

But it really doesn't support either outcome strongly - with the conclusion being that different winners would have, or could have, been declared based on various regions of recount coverage and levels of ballot acceptance.

So, far from laughable or delusional that Gore "won" Florida, your own citation equally supports outcomes that have Gore winning or Bush winning.  Just depends on the particulars you choose - and that doesn't mean wild stretches of imagination.  Many of these scenarios, with either candidate winning, are plausible.  We're not talking UFO material.

So, do you have any other citations - perhaps a Fox Opinion Poll - to support your point that the possibility that Gore won (the actual vote, that is) is pure lunacy?

The point is, the court in 2000 was controlled by (Lowell - 11/27/2007 8:27:09 AM)
justices appointed by Republican presidents.  Hence, the 5-4 vote to stop Florida's recount and hand the presidency to Bush on a "silver platter," GreenMiles aptly puts it.

Ah, so it's "group think" to come to a conclusion (Lowell - 11/27/2007 11:48:36 AM)
you don't agree with. Nice...

Correction (PM - 11/27/2007 12:50:41 PM)
It is still a hot issue on that blog, and a number of commenters think it still needs to be looked at.

Ah, Groupthink (Hugo Estrada - 11/27/2007 1:52:15 PM)
so is that what is going on with Congressional Republicans when they keep supporting Bush on Iraq regardless of how unpopular the Iraqi war is?

Thanks a lot for educating us.

Don't trolls have better things to do? (TheGreenMiles - 11/27/2007 12:02:53 PM)
Isn't there a bridge you should be guarding?

Why do Republicans get so angry when reminded on how Bush stole the election? (Hugo Estrada - 11/27/2007 1:56:15 PM)
The only thing that gets them angrier than this is reminding them that if one supports the war but won't fight in it, one is a chicken hawk.

They must know that both are statements are true, and are trying to groupthink themselves into denial.

Not to speak of the fact that the decision was unconstitutional (Rebecca - 11/27/2007 1:01:04 PM)

Those snarley smiles (Rebecca - 11/27/2007 12:59:56 PM)
Those smiles look like they could just kill each other. They look like they could tear each other's hair out at any minute.

Rudy latest victim of "group think?" LOL (PM - 11/27/2007 1:13:57 PM)
Watch this video of Rudy answering questions about global warming.  http://pajamasmedia....  Rudy not only thinks there's global warming, but that he thinks Gore needs to get working on possible solutions, saying that "special interests" must be contended with in the fight.

In the video Rudy comes across as quite liberal (i.e., thinking) on the issue.

Upcoming bi-partisan candidates' climate forum coming up (PM - 11/27/2007 1:28:58 PM)
http://weblog.signon...  It'll be interesting to see who shows and what they say.  (Gore and Ahnold will be there, as will McCain.)  McCain has a radio ad now that says in part:

MCCAIN: And in every town hall I heard from you that climate change was real and was a serious threat to our environment and national security. I think the time is past when we argue about whether climate change is real or not. We have an obligation to future generations to take action and fix it. Not everyone heard you, but I did.

(I understand many may not be happy with some of the solutions he's talked about -- but he does honestly seem to be on board.)

Excellent points (TheGreenMiles - 11/27/2007 2:09:45 PM)
It will be REALLY interesting to see what happens at the Al & Arnie forum.

Nobel Winner Talks of 5 Stages of Climate Grief (PM - 11/27/2007 7:38:24 PM)
Nobel Winner Lectures on 'The Five Stages of Climate Grief'

I think the headline says it all -- but here's the story link.  http://www.newwest.n...

Since learning last month that he was a co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, University of Montana professor Steve Running has received many letters and emails regarding his win, and not all have been congratulatory.

The article says:

Running would like to see more people moving to the acceptance or, as he called it, the "let's get to work" phase.

Amen.

Just heard some Gore/Bush info (Rebecca - 11/27/2007 11:15:58 PM)
I just heard that we only got a small part of what Bush said to Gore on the phone the night of the election in 2000. According to sources the people who were there said the conversation was somewhat more foul with Bush threatening Gore's family if he tried to challenge the election.

Another reason for the snarley smiles.
