The phantom turnaround

In todays Post, Peter Baker wonders why with all the successes Bush's approval ratings arn't improving.  I'll explain it:
* Going from total chaos, to general civil unrest with 10 instead of 30 suicide bombings a week isn't really much to be proud of.  Things are improving in Iraq is a little like the fire department standing over the shambling ruins of your house saying, well we saved the chimney.
* Property values are falling like a rock.  It is hard to see progress when your biggest assest and most expensive purchase in your live is now a few hundred thousand dollars in the red.
* The dollar is in freefall.
* Gas is up to record highs.
* Great job on those California fires vs. NOLA.  If you havn't noticed Atlanta is about to run out of water.  Let's hold off and see how the evacuation goes of Atlanta before we declare victory over Fema.

In conclusion things are not going well for Bush.  Apointing an new AG, who has launched an investigation of the last AG, isn't exactly a victory.  Dropping the rate of suicide bombings in Iraq from completly insane to just out of control isn't exactly a victory.  By the way, I think we forgot Poland.  Remember Poland the part of the coalition of the willing, well they arn't willing anymore.

You got it: it's the economy (Hugo Estrada - 11/23/2007 1:44:32 AM)
Americans can't talk about the economy (okay, RK readers can, but most Americans can't), so they find something else to focus on when they are really anxious about money.

Iraq has been for many what they are focused on. But what they really are afraid of is making mortgage payments and facing bankruptcy.
