Democratic Gains in Roanoke County

Good morning, RK!  In Roanoke County, incumbent Democratic Sheriff Gerald Holt and Commissioner Nancy Horn, both unopposed, were re-elected, and I defeated my Republican opponent for Clerk 62/38, precisely as I had predicted.  More about that below the fold...

In addition, Democrat Charlotte Moore won a seat on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors which had been totally Republican for the past several years.  (When I was last Chairman of our BOS in 1991, it was totally Democratic.)

Also, Democrat Dave Wymer won a seat on the Roanoke County School Board which, for all intents and purposes, had also been totally Republican for a number of years.

Democratic Delegate Onzlee Ware was easily re-elected as was unopposed State Senator John Edwards.
Our local Republican Committee and a number of elected Republican officials made it quite clear that they were very interested in defeating me due to my strong support over the years of our many fine Democratic candidates.

To their apparent surprise, the result was that I received my highest re-election vote totals and percentage of the vote since I first started running for office in 1979 and holding office in 1984.

We are targeting key Republicans for next year's elections, and I'm really, really, really looking forward to being directly and heavily involved in those campaigns.

Now it's my turn, and I can hardly wait to get started, so please stay tuned...

Thanks!

Steve McGraw
