Rumor Central: Republican Dirty Tricks in Manassas?

I am hearing the following, don't know exactly what to make of it but thought I would pass it on:

The Jackson Miller for Delegate campaign has hired high school students to replace Jeanette Rishell yard signs with his own at private residences. This is the first stage in what the Republican Town Committee and Help Save Manassas have set up as their voter intimidation program.

I also have been hearing that the Miller campaign is very worried that the race with Rishell is neck and neck.  Apparently, someone at Miller HQ overheard what they believed to be Miller staffers talking about needing to "do something" -- possible dirty tricks? -- very close to the election.  Keep your eyes and ears open!

Another GOP dirty trick? (Lowell - 11/4/2007 7:07:55 PM)
From the Karen Schulz for Senate campaign...

Vogel Gets Area Delegates to Use D.C. Dirty Tricks in Deceptive Mailer

Schultz campaign mobilizes for onslaught of Vogel's D.C.-style dirty tricks

WINCHESTER - In a last-minute, D.C.-style dirty trick, Jill Holtzman Vogel recruited Delegates Clay Athey and Beverly Sherwood to mislead voters in their districts in mailers and political robocalls that went out this weekend.

In the last minute communications, Athey claims to be "your Delegate to the Virginia General Assembly," and "we will be on the ballot together," However, the mailer and the robo call deliberately target voters well outside of Athey's district, into areas represented by Joe May (R-33) and Bob Marshall (R-13).

Marshall and May have never endorsed fellow Republican Vogel. Sherwood sent out similar mailers and robo calls, outside of the bounds of her district.

"This is a sign of a desperate campaign," said Julie Petrick, Karen Schultz's campaign manager. "After losing the support of Virginia Republicans, Jill Vogel has to use Washington-style dirty tricks to try to fool voters. It's clear that Jill will say anything for power, whether it's true or not."

Petrick announced Sunday that the Schultz for Senate campaign is preparing for a full onslaught of Washington, D.C., style dirty tricks from Vogel. The Schultz campaign is encouraging voters to call their headquarters at 540-450-0690 if they see any Washington-style dirty tricks.

I'll keep an eye out (Pain - 11/4/2007 7:32:57 PM)
I got an email from the republican party [why, I dont know] that said the Rishelle/Miller race was 'targeted' by the GOP.  I guess that means they we're taking off the gloves cause Miller was about to get his ass kicked, but thats just a guess. ;)

It's going to be close, regardless of the outcome.

Surely you jest! (Doug in Mount Vernon - 11/4/2007 8:30:36 PM)
The Jackson Miller campaign fighting for survival!!???

It's simply impossible because they have their silver bullet out there in PWC--immigration!!  That is supposed to deliver insurmountable hourdes of voters to the GOP!!

Hopefully, the sensible people will show up in hordes, too. (pol - 11/4/2007 8:40:04 PM)
In fact, tomorrow, I'm going to stop every Hispanic I run into and tell them that, if they're legal, to please go vote on Tuesday.

I'm working the polls and I have been reassured that there's now a law that if a Republican contests a voter, that Republican has to sign an affidavit as to why he is contesting -- no more harrassment for the sake of harrassment.

Excellent, every Hispanic in Prince William (Lowell - 11/4/2007 9:36:41 PM)
who's eligible to vote should definitely vote on Tuesday.  That's their chance to get rid of the demagogues and fear-mongers.

Sounds like Republicans are at it again. (pol - 11/4/2007 8:33:42 PM)
In 2004, Republicans sent young kids to our booth at the PWC Fair to ask for bumperstickers.  We soon found out they were paying the kids $1 for each sticker they got from our table.

On another note -- I live in PWC and our signage is a lot more limited because the county won't allow us to put signs on public rights-of-way.  However, I've seen far less Republican signage this year.  Has anyone else noticed that?  I have been reading that the DNC has been raising far more funds than the RNC this election season.

Do you think perhaps the RPVA has limited funds this time around?

You're right, but the it seems the signs have been replace by banners. (Barbara - 11/4/2007 10:50:28 PM)
Large, banners that in Mr. Stewart's case were originally leftovers from his January campaign, ('control development'--which by the way, he has no idea how to do) and have recently been replaced by new banners--'stop illegal immigration'--which he also has no idea how to do.

I have to say something (Ben - 11/5/2007 1:41:38 AM)
"Apparently, someone at Miller HQ overheard what they believed to be Miller staffers talking about needing to "do something" -- possible dirty tricks? -- very close to the election. "

Um, it sounds to me like the dirty trick was a spy in the Miller office?  Did I just read this wrong?

Good observation. (pol - 11/5/2007 2:15:48 AM)
Perhaps the person could be called a more-honorable-than- usually-found-worker in the Miller office, and not a spy?

dirty tricks? Dirty Trickster (blue doggette - 11/5/2007 11:36:43 AM)
Well, the Republicans did inherit Gary Friedman so let the cross pollenation begin.  I understand he carries tales across the aisle and from one campaign to the other better than the average bear.
