Eugene Delgaudio a "clownish, abrasive public official"

The Washington Post sure gets this one right, in its editorial, "Restoring Sanity in Loudoun: In Tuesday's elections, plenty of rascals to throw out."

Sterling District: Eugene A. Delgaudio, the Republican incumbent, is a clownish, abrasive public official who skewers gays, public transit, illegal immigrants and anyone who crosses him, perhaps hoping it will distract from his votes in favor of practically every development proposal. Having opposed measures to improve the board's ethics practices, he is now raking in campaign cash from developers. His Democratic challenger, business owner Jeanne R. West, is a sensible alternative who would restore dignity to the office.

I've always felt this about Delgaudio, and I'm glad to see the Post agrees.  In general, it's certainly time to clean up the corrupt mess in Loudoun, for which "Loudouners can thank the Republican majority on the Board of Supervisors."  As the Post says, there are "plenty of rascals to throw out," starting with "Disgusting Delgaudio.  For highlights from Delgaudio's despicable, hate-mongering career, see here (believe it or not, Delgaudio urged that "Congress should designate the public practice and promotion of homosexuality as a federal hate crime.").  What a bizarre drama queen.

Maybe we should call his party the ZOP (KathyinBlacksburg - 11/1/2007 9:52:17 AM)
It's beginning to look like we should consider calling GOP (Grank Ole Party) the Xenophobe Old Party (XOP).  Guys like this and May haven't gotten over that this is 2007 and not 1887.  The party needs to grow up, grow a conscience, and grow a heart.

Oops typo (KathyinBlacksburg - 11/1/2007 9:53:10 AM)
Typ in the header of my comment should read XOP.

ZOP works too (PM - 11/1/2007 10:04:54 AM)
Zealots=fanatics

Zombies=the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.

I'm thinking of the way so many GOP legislators (state and national) roll over for the party line even when the result is ridiculous.

As his 2003 opponent... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 11/1/2007 10:25:32 AM)
...I am glad to see that the Post agrees that it's LONG PAST time for him to GO!  Drama queen is right.  Jeanne West is a wonderful person who cares deeply for the community of Sterling Park.  She will be wonderful if the good people there have the sense to elect her.

DELGOTTAGO!!

Sally Kurtz (Doug in Mount Vernon - 11/1/2007 11:01:38 AM)
Sally is a wonderful human being.  I know and love her.  She does not tolerate dishonesty.  So when the post says she "contributed to the acrimony"---I think it's easy to understand why.

Sally is a good old-fashioned no-nonsense down to earth woman who won't put up with bullshit.  If there is ANYONE who deserves to be re-elected, Sally Kurtz does!

But at least they didn't call her "embarassingly short on substance" like the Post shamefully did to Janet Oleszek.

That was the only explanation I could think of (David Weintraub - 11/1/2007 2:36:37 PM)
...for that remark; she did give ol' Eugene a dressing down for that despicable incident where he said that the schools' anti-bulling efforts shouldn't cover gay kids. If that was "acrimony," it was certainly richly deserved.

Meanwhile, there is an ongoing investigation of Delgaudio signs being placed in yards without permission, and in some cases allegations of bribery or intimidation, in which non-English speaking residents have somehow gotten the impression that it would be unlawful to remove them:

"One person understood that Delgaudio was the Supervisor and as such 'nosotros tenemos que siguiere sus ordenes' or 'we have to follow his orders'."

See Equality Loudoun.

Laura's marvelous work... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 11/2/2007 2:00:38 PM)
...on that issue should not go to waste.  Jim Plowman is obviously not a trustworthy person, however, to initiate such an investigation--not after the Tate-Vogel mess.

Although, Jim did indicate to me, privately, back in 2003, as did every other candidate for Chairman, including Bob Gordon, that he hoped I'd win b/c Delgaudio was such an embarassment to the GOP.

So, I could be wrong about not trusting Jim.

I've met Kurtz, and she's good (Craig - 11/1/2007 6:12:28 PM)
I was acquainted with Kurtz's daughter, so I ran into her a few times both in and outside party functions, and she doesn't suffer fools gladly.  And anyway, if the other Loudoun GOP guys are anything as terrible as Delguadio, I can understand why she'd be upset.

Throw them all out (Evan M - 11/1/2007 1:01:29 PM)
All the Republicans on the Loudoun Board of Supervisors need to be defeated.

Bruce Tulloch - The leader of the gang, who usurped the Chairman's duties in 2003 and hasn't looked back as his developer backers ramrod development through the County.

Stephen Snow - Who wouldn't know the appearance of corruption if he was sitting in it, oh, wait, he is sitting in it.

Jim Clem - Who is basically running a campaign against the very town he purports to represent on the Board of Supervisors.

Lori Waters - Who cannot support a facility for those in need in Ashburn, and considers the Christianity of her Board votes, but sees no conflict between these positions.

Mick Staton - Dick Black's former son-in-law.

Eugene Delgaudio - Who doesn't believe were are a lot of cows in Loudoun, because he hasn't seen them. (Seriously, not kidding.)

And lest I forget, the man who is not currently on the Board, but whose signs clutter every main road in Loudoun.

Mike Firetti - The developer's agent who has lived on the Beach in Delaware for the past few years, and whose campaign manager (on developers' payroll) loaned him the money for his campaign. This is a man who has developer laborers - usually hispanic - putting out his signs and holding his billboards at the side of the road, even as he runs against immigration.

Republicans in Loudoun Do not have irony.

Republicans lack the irony gene (Teddy - 11/1/2007 4:35:05 PM)
Evan,as evidenced by the fact that these undocumented immigrants are here BECAUSE a Republican President, Reagan, changed crossing the border illegally into an administrative offense back in the 1980's, and thereafter they were not incarcerated but simply turned loose... the objective of this odd decision was to provide cheap (illegal) labor for the agribusiness farms of Southern California (remember, Ronnie was Governor of Calif. before being elected Presi.), thus breaking the farm laborers' union under Cesar Chacez. Once the mega farmers got the cheap labor, every other corporate CEO wanted the same corporate benefit, with the same objectives of improving the bottom line and breaking unions.

And now, the Republican White House and the last Republican Congresses bumble along, permitting the scam to continue at the behest of their corporate donors, while local Republicans demagogue the problem, as if it were not their fault to begin with (I will agree some Democrats helped it along, but it is mainly a Republican- developed situation).  A perfect example of olympic class irony typical of the GOP.

Delgottago and the Other Republicans Must Go (jackiehva - 11/1/2007 8:34:45 PM)
The Republicans on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors need to be replaced big time.  But this is only going to happen if the Democrats get off their butts and take the time to go to the polls on Tuesday.  Fireball Firetti aka Carpetbagger, especially, must be defeated.  Where did this guy come from?

There are some well qualified Democrats running in this race and we must support them on Tuesday.  If we don't vote, we can't bitch and groan if the Republicans get re-elected.

And don't forget George for Sheriff.
