Only McCain could score a real victory in the Old Dominion.

Other than that, Hillary puts Virginia in play for the Dems according to Survey USA:

Clinton (D) 47%, Giuliani (R) 46%
Clinton (D) 51%, Thompson (R) 43%
Clinton (D) 51%, Romney (R) 41%
Clinton (D) 52%, Huckabee (R) 38%
McCain (R) 52%, Clinton (D) 42%
Clinton (D) 54%, Paul (R) 35%
Giuliani (R) 47%, Gore (D) 45%

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched.  I would note that most voters are not even focused on the 2008 election yet.  And Governor Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul are not nationally recognized figures.  Clinton, Giuliani, McCain and Thompson are the few that are nationally known to about everyone and their mother.  But I would guess that this is ephemeral knowledge at this point.  And the vast majority of voters are not familiar enough with the candidates and their positions to give with absolute certainty their projected vote one year from now.

HRC may say that all her dirty laundry is out there and so her negatives are pretty much set.  But real campaigning has not begun yet.  And Americans have really short memories.  So, once the mud starts getting thrown, look for her numbers to go down no matter how poised she may be.

Also, there isn't a presidential campaign occurring in Virginia yet.  This poll has absolutely no meaning until the campaigns start in earnest.  I would point out that Virginia has not crossed over yet.  Kaine and Webb did not win by overwhelming margins.  And Republicans held on to LG and AG and all of their Congressional Districts.  On top of that, in 2004, Kerry lost the state by 6%.  Has the state really changed that much in 4 years?  We might have a glimpse of the future in one week, until then save the HRC cheer leading.

Also, I have my doubts about SurveyUSA (Lowell - 10/29/2007 1:21:07 PM)
Their approval numbers for Webb are so out of whack with the latest Washington Post poll, I'm not sure how much I trust them anymore. (on the other hand, do I trust the Washington Post?!?  ha)
