Poll Numbers!

A recent Emerson College poll found that Jerry Kilgore(R) is leading Tim Kaine(D) by a margin of 33% to 26%. So, how can this be seen as good news?  Because a whopping 41% of Virginia's voters don't have the faintest idea who they'll support! In a "red state" like Virginia, before most folks have started paying attention to the race, one would expect Kilgore to be riding around 40-45%, just because the Republicans would say "yeah, sure, I'm voting Republican." These results prove that Kaine can and will win when voters get to know him.  Also, the poll did not include "Republican Independent" candidate Russ Potts in the mix, and his candidacy will almost certainly hurt Kilgore.

Interestingly, the Emerson College poll also said that Governor Mark Warner(D) would defeat US Senator George Allen by a margin of 48% to 41% in the 2006 elections. Numbers like these could influence Warner's decision on whether to run against George Allen in 2006, or to seek the White House in 2008.
