There is a serious drive to get Al Gore on the ballot. This is a critical time in history. Not only does the world need someone recognized as a World community leader, but it also needs a Visionary. One that can not only begin repairing the damage to our name, but to address the critical world sustainability issues that the next President will have to address. And to do so using an instrument other than the military or it's contractors.

Al Gore's role as a prominent environmental activist is well known and for this he shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Less understood is that it was the Gore Bill that created the public policy that moved the internet from a rather limited military born network to what we have today. The prominent Internet pioneers Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn wrote the following with regard to Gore's contribution:

As far  back as the 1970s Congressman Gore promoted the idea of high speed telecommunications as an engine for both economic growth and the improvement of our educational system. He was the first elected official to grasp the potential of computer communications to have a broader impact than just improving the conduct of science and scholarship.

To help get him on the ticket you can do at least two quick things:

Vote in DFA poll

Democracy for America (DFA) is running a very important online presidential poll. This influential group could make a formal endorsement provided a candidate gets a large enough majority.  Al Gore is very popular with DFA members, and with your help, he can win. Gore's name is not included, but you can type it in. Just drag the icon for "Other" to the top and type Al Gore's name in the space provided. It only takes a few seconds. Please vote.

Write a letter to Al Gore: Run Al Run!

Write a letter to Al Gore today and ask him to run. If you already did, write another one. We want him to receive hundreds of thousands of letters now as the momentum builds: The Office of the Honorable Al Gore, 2100 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.

Why? (tx2vadem - 10/22/2007 7:01:06 PM)
Is he a better choice than anyone currently in the field?  And if so, how so?  If he runs for office, will that not divert attention away from the tremendous work he has done to bring attention to Global Warming?  Would he not better serve the country in that current role?

Personally, I don't see him winning any primaries.  Most likely, he will divert attention away from other candidates who might have a chance of beating Hillary.  He would just increase the odds that Hillary gets handed the nomination.  And he doesn't add anything to the debate that isn't already there.  Plus, we have already been there and done that.
