More Republican Illegal Immigrant Hypocrisy

The following information is courtesy of Not Harry F. Byrd, Sr.  Thanks for his help on this!

I knew that Republicans were total hypocrites on illegal immigration, demagoguing the issue while taking large sums of money from the very corporations that illegally EMPLOY illegals.  However, I didn't realize it was THIS bad:  according to VPAP, Del. Chris Peace works for Smithfield Foods, while Sen. Walter Stosch and Sen. Thomas Norment are actually shareholders!

Also, illegal immigrant employer Smithfield is still dropping money into Virginia races and the Virginia GOP is still accepting their money -- even post ICE raid.  This includes $500 to Del. Thomas Davis Rust, who has simultaneously supported shutting down the Herndon day laborer center.

Then there's $500 from Smithfield to Sen. Jay "Keep The Illegals Out of College" O'Brien.

Then there's $500 from Smithfield to far-right-winger Nick "Feminazi" Rerras.

Then there's $1,000 from Smifthfield to the Majority Leader, Morgan Griffith...and his henchman Terry Kilgore.

It looks like Fred Quayle buys his pig products for his fundraising events from Smithfield; gotta love that illegal immigrant produced pork!

Then there's $500 to Joe May.

In other words, Republican hypocrisy on the illegal immigrant issue knows no bounds: take wads of money from companies that employ illegal immigrants, look the other way and don't enforce the law against those companies, and then turn right around and demagogue the issue for political gain.  Disgusting.

By the way, for more information on illegal immigrant employer (and abuser) Smithfield Foods, see here and here.

The REAL way to deal with illegal immigration (Lowell - 10/16/2007 7:49:18 AM)
See here for an actual, effective, serious way to deal with problems associated with illegal immigration:

Fairfax County authorities said yesterday that they have arrested and jailed the landlord of an illegal boardinghouse, the most dramatic development since county leaders launched a crackdown on overcrowding and other zoning violations in June.

Gerald E. Connolly (D), chairman of the Board of Supervisors, announced the arrest at a board meeting. Connolly, who is seeking reelection next month, has come under fire for not taking a tougher stand against illegal immigrants. His response has been to tout the county's efforts to police illegal behavior, such as the operation of overcrowded boardinghouses, rather than immigration status.

That's right, instead of demagoguing the issue, Fairfax County is dealing with the issues that get people irritated.  Is that so difficult a concept?  Apparently it is for people like Corey Stewart.  Perhaps he should give Gerry Connolly a call on this?

Immigrants lower inflation, cause markets to work better (Lowell - 10/16/2007 8:18:25 AM)
Just in case you missed this, it turns out that "When Immigration Goes Up, Prices Go Down."  Not only that, in a finding that conservatives will certainly cheer (of course they will - ha!), immigrants -- legal or not -- "force markets to run more efficiently, and thereby make cheaper prices available for all."

That's right, immigrants lower inflation and make markets work better.  Sounds like a conservative dream-come-true.  Oh, but wait, there's some guy speaking Spanish at Lowe's; deport the bastards!!! *snark*

Immigration and Prices

Access via the journal it was published in requires login but the author, Saul Loch, has got on-line for free.

Contrary to the predictions of the standard
perfectly competitive model, the arrival of immigrants into a city chosen at random had
a moderating effect on prices
.

Critics will certainly point out sample selection bias (temporal restrictions ... hmmmmm) ; but the undermining of the perfectly competitve model remains a bold assertation.

immigration or "illegal" immigration (JScott - 10/16/2007 11:07:03 AM)
are you referencing immigration generally with the inclusion of the "illegal" immigration when you speak of lowering inflation. I don't think you will get an arguement about the impacts (positive) of legal immigration, but when you factor the resources local governments and cities are throwing out at addressing the impacts of the illegals, by this I mean the organizations behind M13 and the Mexican Mafia for example I think people have a hard time seeing there tax dollars be used for the sole purpose of law enforcements creation of specialized units be funded to address this one area that in all honesty would not be a problem if we were enforcing our standing laws. I am wondering how much it is costing tax payers annually to incarcerate illegals in our prison systems nationwide?
Would all that money not be better spent on education or social services for our poor, our elderly, our for worker improvement programs as we upgarde our workforce? I think we should be taking the debate to the level of impacts, both positive and negative in tersm of costs, and begin to formulate a comprehensive plan addressing all matters regarding immigration and how the illegals burden our systems both practically and economically.

Interesting (Just Saying - 10/16/2007 12:11:54 PM)
You do realize that the answer to all your concerns is legalization?

All of the burdens people are complaining about come from the fact that we continue to force people to remain "illegal."

Legalize them, give them social security numbers and the ability to pay taxes (or get jobs provide health care) and you'll solve the problem...particularly at the local level.

The problems aren't with some moral defect on the part of the population...it's their legal immigration status (or lack there of).

The people who are standing in the way of solving the problem are the people who continue to stand in the way of allowing a path to earned citizenship.
