Chuck Davis has announced that he will run in the upcoming special election for the 1st Congressional District seat left vacant by his late wife, Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis. Mr. Davis, a retired firefighter, also said he's planning to run for a full term next year.

Gov. Kaine hasn't yet announced the date of the special election to fill the remainder of Congresswoman Davis' current term, but Dec. 11 seems to be the odds-on favorite. Republicans in the 1st will probably hold a convention to decide their nominee on Nov. 10 or 17. Look for most, if not all, of the other big-name Republicans rumored to run for the seat drop out of consideration.

Does the Governor announce a date for their vacant seat election?

Chuck Davis, at first glance, appears to be much more reasonable than several of the other Republicans mentioned in that article.  This might be a good thing for the district and the country.

Sometimes non-politicians are the best representatives...

He'd certainly be better than Frederick or Lingamfelter, and David Caprara is really scary.

Probably best to go slowly on this one...
