Last nite, Oct 10 2007, the combined Democratic city committees of Newport News, Hampton, and York-Poquoson held their annual JJ Gala at the beautiful Newport News Marriott in City Center.
The event was attended by over 300 enthusiastic and energized Democrats.
Guests and speakers included Brian Moran, Creigh Deeds, Dickie Cranwell and other luminaries from the Democratic Party of Virginia.
First District Democratic Senate Nominee, John Miller, gave a rousing speech as to what his main priorities will be in Richmond when he wins the seat on November 6.
Thanks to Charlie Stanton and his committee for a wonderful evening.
Virginia is turning Blue.

Awards (Newport News Dem - 10/11/2007 2:01:51 PM)
We also make 2 recognitions at this event every year. We award the "Hunter Andrews Democrat of the Year" and the "Bobby Scott Grassroots Volunteer of the Year."

Our Democrat of the Year was the former Mayor of Hampton and current State Senator, the Honorable Mamie Locke. Our volunteer was a great couple, Ruth and Ron Jensen of Hampton.

Thanks to all who attended!

Sorry I missed the 3rd Gala (Shawn - 10/12/2007 9:57:19 AM)
Well done Newport News, York-Poquoson, Hampton Democrats!  I'm still getting reports of the wonderful evening and regret this is the first year I've missed being with everyone. Please let me join you to honor the award recipients:

The Hunter Andrews Democrat of the Year Award that went to State Senator Mamie Locke. I've seen her everywhere working for constituents and helping build the Democratic Party.

The Bobby Scott Grassroots Volunteer of the Year Award that went to Ruth and Ron Jensen of Hampton.  They certainly deserved to be recognized for the tremendous contributions, hard work, and accomplishments as Democratic grassroots activists and volunteers (if you ever get invited to their house for dinner try not to pass up the opportunity).

Thanks Charlie, Gaylee, Gene, JoAnn and all who made the night such a success!
