Lunch With Tim

The Vienna Inn is a legendary landmark in Northern Virginia politics.  An old diner where patrons share tables with strangers, the Inn has the kind of atsmosphere that encourages the sharing of tips, gossip and deal making over steaming chili dogs.  So, what better place for Tim to enjoy lunch with local supporters as he prepares for his last swing of the campaign season?

Around lunchtime, Leslie Byrne arrived, followed shortly by Tim Kaine and Gerry Connolly.  Both went round the room, mingling with a crowd comprised of local Democratic activists and Vienna Inn regulars.  The regular crowd had a fun time comparing the event with visits from other politicians.  As Tim went table to table, he spent time getting to know every patron, sharing stories of life on the campaign trail. Then he paused with Leslie and Gerry to informally address the whole crowd about getting ready for the last nine days of the campaign, reviewing the challenges and achievements already won and urging all to greater focus these last few days. Following this--an interview with NBC4 news. Then it was time to eat.

Relaxed, surrounded by supporters and interested patrons, Tim seemed to really enjoy this very laid back campaign stop.  As lunch went on, talk settled into jokes, Tim caught up with local politics and enjoyed a slice of meatloaf with gravy, mashed potatoes and a coke (duly noted to "feed" your obsession with campaign food, Michael Shear).  Then it was time to move on to the next campaign stop...Centreville.
