Contact Hispanic Voters

I received the following from the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia.  Check it out, and help if you can.

We need your help desperately.  Right now I ask that you please take an hour of your time or less to call 10-20 people within your zip code.

We are asking you to contact registered Hispanic voters of which most have voted at least once, and that vote was for a Democrat.  We are providing access to the on-line Volunteer Center-VIVA to identify the voters which need contacting.  This takes the place of phone banking from a central point and allows you to help out from the comfort of your home.

At the VIVA web site, http://viva.vavictory2005.org/, you will find all the tools (training, scripts, voter lists) you need to contact voters in your area.  Once registered, a short list of voters, five to 10 people to start, with their pertinent information, is given to you.  The system does its best to match you with Hispanics in your geographic area; it starts with your zip code first. You can contact them  by phone, canvass, or letter.  Once you contacted a voter, and you input the acquired information into the system, the system will remove that voter from the active, to be contacted data pool.  If we need to re-contact the voter, the system provides you with the opportunity to make the re-contact, allowing you/us to develop a more personal relationship with the voters.  You can also choose to simply make the phone calls from your home using the provided script.

This is an extremely powerful new outreach tool that is truly very easy to use.  All it needs is volunteers to make it work.  Please help us make this project a success!  For additional information, please contact Sindy Benavides at the No.VA Coordinated Campaign office; contact her at 703-720-2600 or  sindy.benavides@vavictory2005.org.

This is also a good way for you to get to know who are the Hispanics that live near you and that may be interested in becoming part of the Fairfax County Hispanic Committee.  That however is not the purpose of these phone calls, but write a note to yourself re: contacting these people after the election.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES, AND THANK YOU.

Chair, Fairfax County Democratic Hispanic Chair
Treasurer, Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia

P.S.  Lina adds that "if anyone encounters a voter who prefers Spanish...annotate the need for a Spanish language speaker, and go on to the next name.  Thanks a lot."
