Limbaugh's "Phony Soldiers"

The day before yesterday, on his nationwide radio program, Rush Limbaugh called service members who oppose the war "phony soldiers"!  Rush never served and is not even a "pretend soldier".

Last week Republican tough guys and right wing shock jocks sought to link all Democrats, Progressives, and War Protesters to Moveon.org for publishing an ad in the New York Times that was thoughtlessly tough on General David Petraeus.  They have done the same in the past with Michael Moore, Jane Fonda, and Cindy Sheehan.

Today, they are mysteriously SILENT about Limbaugh.  This is nothing new, Limbaugh is truly a "voice of the people" and even an honorary Republican member of congress.

The link below gives the response of Virginia Senator James Webb, who was seriously wounded and highly decorated as a U. S. Marine in the Vietnam war.

Update September 28, 2007 19:30 (buzzbolt - 9/28/2007 7:50:25 PM)
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who is a frequent target of Limbaugh's:
"Any American who risks his or her life to defend us has earned the respect and gratitude of every American citizen, irrespective of their views on this war. If Mr. Limbaugh made the remark he is reported to have made, it reflects very poorly on him."

Mitt Romney and the White House expressed (through spokespersons) short, mild, and non-critical comments.  Note:  McCain did not hide behind a spokesperson.

Limbaugh claims that all criticism is way out of context.

Both Senate and House Democrats demand apology and threaten unspecified floor action.

this issue is "phony" (JScott - 9/29/2007 12:38:47 AM)
This whole issue is "phony". McCain gets it right, but the soldier in question in the piece by Rush apparently was indeed a "phony soldier". Look I could care less about Rush and all his arrogance but the fact is what he was talking about was indeed one soldier who lied about being a Ranger, lied about where he served and for how long he served (he had only served 44 days in the Army)and lied about his discharge. The guy was mistakenly embraced by the anti war activists without even verifying his record...trust in verification folks. This whole thing is going to back fire. I was dispapointed with Webb for even addressing it because he had to have been misinformed something Webb rarely falls victim to but to say that he hates it when military serviceman get politicized and they should not be and yet we get no condemnation of Moveon.org from his office for its ad seems very disingenius. Jim Webb we support you but your better than this.

Listen to the sound bite (Catzmaw - 9/29/2007 2:05:35 PM)
A caller is talking about the "phony soldiers" who don't give the real picture, and Rush picks up the ball and attacks everyone who opposes the war as a phony soldier.  He doesn't call this one guy a phony soldier.  He bloviates about all war opponents, so Webb was certainly within his rights to criticize the comments.

Is a swine rabble rouser who makes his living by baiting anyone who disagrees with his politics of envy, reaction, environmental and mental degradation... to a pack of losers who contribute nothing but "ditto" to his spew of hate.  Why does he deserve any respect -- he affords none to those he rabidly attacks.

Poor Rush!  He was misrepresented!  And after taking such pains to PORTRAY WITH PHOTOGRAPHIC VERISIMILITUDE the views of others.  My heart bleeds... because, you know, I'm one of those b/h liberals.
