Nobody is more deserving of the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- the nation's highest civilian award -- than Liviu Librescu, "a Holocaust survivor who died trying to save his students during the mass killings at Virginia Tech in April."  Thanks to Gov. Kaine for nominating Professor Librescu, and for his stirring words:

Liviu Librescu gravitated towards freedom: freedom from persecution, intolerance, and finally, from oppression.  His courage through adversity speaks volumes.

There were many heroes at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.  When it is awarded, Liviu Librescu's Presidential Medal of Freedom will represent all of them.

This man's entire life is testament to moral and physical courage. (dsvabeachdems - 9/28/2007 7:04:48 AM)
The tragic end was an exclamation point.

Well.... (doctormatt06 - 9/28/2007 8:13:53 AM)
I certainly hope he gets it...

How could he not get it? (Matusleo - 9/28/2007 10:28:57 AM)
He was truly a hero.  His story showed what true moral courage is about, and that even in a society with so many problems, a society in which true evil is lurking, lights such as this can bring us all hope.

Liviu Librescu and all the others who lost their lives at my Alma Mater will never be forgotten.  Thank you, Dr. Librescu.
