Beyond Parody

This is pretty much beyond parody:

Members of the Virginia Commission on Immigration this morning overwhelmingly selected Sen. John C. Watkins (R-Chesterfield), a moderate, over Del. Robert W. Marshall (R-Prince William) as the chairman of the panel.

[...]

In the final vote, Watkins drew support from all 10 panel members appointed by Kaine's (D). Delegates Jackson H. Miller (R-Manassas) and C. Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah) supported Marshall. But Speaker William J. Howell's (R-Stafford) appointee to the panel, who works for Smithfield Foods, supported Watkins as did those members appointed by the Senate.

Yes, that Smithfield Foods.

...right out of the gate. And I like it!

No surprise here (snolan - 9/27/2007 12:24:00 AM)
No surprise at all that Delegate Jackson Miller and former Delegate Dick "Baby Pesticides" Black are supporting Delegate Bob Marshall in that article and the comments.

Nick's right - I was at the debate where Marshall sounded very looney in 2005, and his wanting to turn our state into a theocracy strikes me as more than a little unconstitutional.  We will be better served by Bruce Roemmelt, who would actually represent us here in the 13th district.  Go Bruce!

Well its like "Jane you ignorant slut..." (presidentialman - 9/27/2007 1:04:55 AM)
For those who've seen the sketch on SNL, its hilarious.  For those who haven't, I've just offended the female population by saying Jane sleeps around and is pretty dumb too.

And how this relates to the thread how?  Unless you're a junkie on state politics, I'm not sure people will get your "parody." Especially because we get more DC city and National news than state.  So permit me to introduce the crickets and the coughing as to quote Lisa Lopner "that was so funny I forgot to laugh."

It's not "funny" at all. (Lowell - 9/27/2007 6:43:11 AM)
At least not in a "ha ha" sense.  Over the years, Smithfield Foods has been a major employer of illegal immigrants.  The irony of having someone who works for Smithfield on an immigration commission, appointed by immigrant-bashing Bill Howell (note: Howell never used the word "illegal" but referred to ALL "newcomers" to Virginia as not sharing our "shared values," whatever those might be).

cough...just clearing my throat (presidentialman - 9/27/2007 5:53:27 PM)
Again, if you had said that in the beginning, I would've been like ah... a grassy knoll thing, butcha didn't. You just went right into the connections without giving the backstory-sure I could've clicked on the link but I'm stressing a point. So there's this making an ass out of u and me by assuming everyone knows what you're talking about. Whether its "funny" or not, you're the one that titled it "beyond parody." And on that note, Raising Kaine is a muckracking site. So people are coming to it for their news, so not everyone will know everything about every story.  I confess to only being employed by Don Beyer Volvo and taking a class in Mark Warner's term, on budgets and state and local politics.  Everything else, there's "nothing in my knogging" to quote Dora the fish.

Seriously (Just Saying - 9/27/2007 6:42:10 PM)
it's incumbent upon you to click through to the links...that's why they're there.

You're just generally being disagreeable for what appears to be no reason.

Lowell has repeatedly posted about the GOPs connections to Smithfield and Smithfield's bad habit of employing undocumented workers. A certain presumption of knowledge is rightfully assumed, IMHO.
