In descending order of Democratic lead.

Edwards 52%
Romney 33%
+19 percentage points

Clinton 53%
Romney 38%
+15 percentage points

Obama 50%
Romney 38%
+12 percentage points

Edwards 49%
Thompson 39%
+10 percentage points

Clinton 50%
Thompson 43%
+7 percentage points

Clinton 50%
Giuliani 44%
+6 percentage points

Edwards 48%
Giuliani 43%
+5 percentage points

Obama 46%
Giuliani 45%
+1 percentage points

Obama 45%
Thompson 47%
+2 percentage points

That's right, according to SurveyUSA, Democrats would win every possible 2008 presidential matchup in Virginia with the exception of Obama-Thompson (which is statistically a dead heat).  So much for Virginia being red?  Also, so much for Hillary Clinton "dragging down" the rest of the Democratic ticket if she's the nominee.  From these numbers, it looks like Clinton and Edwards would be about equally strong in Virginia, followed by Obama. Verrrrry interesting.

P.S.  If Democrats win Virginia in 2008, they will win the White House in a landslide.  And as of this moment, it looks like Democrats are going to win Virginia in 2008.

Which (Gordie - 9/26/2007 7:09:10 AM)
proves all the media is wrong. The R's do not want Hillary to be the nominee. They are scared of her and are trying to use reverse tactics to get Obama the nomination.

They're definitely terrified of Hillary (Lowell - 9/26/2007 8:04:15 AM)

Don't count your chickens. (loboforestal - 9/26/2007 9:09:05 AM)
Repubs always seem to rally in the months before the general Presidential election: last time Democrats got more that 50.1 % of the vote was 1964. The Democrats have a lot of work to do.

This has nothing to do with chicken counting. (Lowell - 9/26/2007 10:13:41 AM)
When was the last time Democratic presidential candidates led Republicans in Virginia?  I can't recall any time since I've lived here...

John is our strongest general candidate.... (MikeSizemore - 9/26/2007 9:12:21 AM)
....and this is another example of that. It goes with 2 other polls released earlier this week where Edwards was the strongest overall in Ohio and Missouri.
+34 against all 3 major Repub. candidates! I especially love the way he smacks around old Freddy. Get 'em!

For now... (mikeporter - 9/26/2007 4:06:42 PM)
but not if Al Gore enters the race sometime next month.

Enough!!! (MikeSizemore - 9/26/2007 9:38:07 PM)
Enough of the Al Gore talk, my Lord! The man has said 1,782 times now that he's not running. It only hurts our candidates to continue to talk about ghost candidates...

This is why they are trying to change the system in California (Rebecca - 9/26/2007 10:01:01 AM)
There is a group which is trying to change the electoral system in California so Republicans will get some of the votes even if the state goes Democratic.

anticipate a change?? (JScott - 9/26/2007 5:49:03 PM)
I would anticipate a change in numbers after the Senate vote on the amendment regarding Iraq/Iran and future funding measures. The Clinton votes on these may very well change some folks mind that truly want to end the war in Iraq. Obama did not help his cause either unfortunately. At least Joe Biden voted no. Anymore votes like these and these numbers may change in Virginia but honestly I am not so sure where we rank in terms of numbers of those 100% against the Iraq war and absolutely want the boys out all together. If that number is significant there may be an impact on the next polling numbers based on these folks votes.
