The winning team for 2007, 2008 and beyond...from tonight's $1 million Moving Virginia Forward fundraiser in Pentagon City.  Great party!

Notes:

Mark Warner commented on how Jim Gilmore left him a huge budget deficit, much larger than he was first told.  He and Tim Kaine turned the state around; now it is the best managed state in the the country, the best place to start a business, the best place for a child to be born, the best state for signing up kids for health insurance, etc.  Warner could not have been prouder of Tim Kaine in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech tragedy.  Kaine has also taken the first steps toward solving the state's transportation crisis, of making sure children are prepared to learn when they enter school, of taking the lead on climate change, of providing health care for small business employees.  Kaine has a record of accomplishment, now we need to give him the partners he needs to take Virignia to even greater heights the next two years.  Kaine is a good man and a good friend who has made us proud.

Tim Kaine commented that the crowd makes him feel better than James Brown.  Five years ago, you'd only get a Democratic crowd like this in Arlington and Alexandria.  Today, you see it all over Virginia.  Democrats know how to govern, running against people who just want to win.  People want more good governance.  This is our moment, never seen conditions so ripe for change as right now. We've got wonderful candidates.  The Democratic presidential candidate in 2008 is going to be thrilled to be on a ballot with Mark Warner.  First, though, we have a tough six weeks ahead.  There's a lot more to do the next 2 1/2 years, and Kaine needs more Democrats to get those things done.  He won't get them done if he has to keep fighting "goofy battles" with legislators who always say no to everything.  Now, we have a tailwind at our backs.

This is great news! (True Blue - 9/25/2007 11:56:37 PM)
I am very excited to see the party uniting.  The excitement is palpable.

No wonder the Republicans are running scared and smearing as they go.

It's a long time to November 2008 (Teddy - 9/26/2007 12:38:39 AM)
and the advice to stay committed and not relax is excellent because there are polls showing that, despite the overall distaste for Republicans generically, when it gets down to specifics, in formerly Republican precincts which Democrats captured in 2006, the expected Democratic presidential nominees lose to Republicans.  This becomes evident when the newly elected 2006 Democratic Congressman is paired with first one, then another of the probable Democratic nominees for President--- Hillary and Obama both lose to Giuliani, and the new Democratic Congressman probably loses as well.  Reverse of coattails.

Couple this with the undoubtedly filthy and alarmist campaign the republicans will run, and the very real possibility we will be in another war contrived by Bush-Cheney, and, well... Fight on, Dems!
