In Opposition to Hillary Clinton...

Hillary Clinton supports laws, regulations and trade agreements which subordinate the broad general good of all Americans and the long term interests of the United States to the whims of corporations controlled by monied elites. Hillary Clinton believes in the same radical corporate-managed trade and labor policies supported by the Bush Administration. These radical pro-corporate policies, established in law and government regulation, enable corporations to destroy good paying jobs for Americans undercutting the very idea of a broad middle class society.
Indeed, Hillary Clinton has displayed a pattern of studied indifference to the plight of working Americans while eagerly accepting corporate gifts, favors, and financial reward. From support for UN-FAIR trade agreements to promoting corporate "guest worker" programs used to replace American white-collar workers with imported lower-cost non-Americans, Senator Clinton well represents the corporate interests of the Offshore Outsourcing lobby in the U.S. Senate.

However, effective advocacy and unwavering support for the interests of corporations and slavish devotion to business lobbies are not popularly-accepted qualifications for election to the office of President of the United States. While it is convenient for some to confuse the short-term objective of winning elections with the principles necessary to govern for the broad general welfare of all Americans, self-serving political opportunism must be recognized for what it is.

Therefore, "The Modern Patriot" opposes the candidacy of Hillary Clinton for the office of President of the United States and urges others to closely examine the beliefs and conduct of Senator Clinton. True democrats do not support policies which destroy the livelihoods of American families and lead to deteriorating living standards for all except the wealthy and well-connected.

This is a crosspost from Info_Tech_Guy's blog, "The Modern Patriot", following on the heels of two previous postings re. Hillary Clinton: (1) "Hillary Clinton Supports Destruction of American Jobs, Takes Pay-Offs For Helping Outsourcers" and (2)"Hillary Clinton's Offshoring Ties Face Scrutiny" Raising Kaine bloggers will recall that Info Tech Guy was a sharp critic of Harris Miller and staunch supporter of Jim Webb on the very issues touched on here.

But Clinton is picking up labor endorsements.  How does that square with your views?

Clinton and unions (Info_Tech_Guy - 9/20/2007 1:42:22 PM)
Kathy:

There are many reasons why unions may decide to endorse candidates who support offshore outsourcing, "free trade" and worker replacement policies. We saw this last year as some unions endorsed Harris Miller in spite of his support for offshore outsourcing and use of H-1b & L-1 replacement workers.

Union contacts have told me that endorsements are often based on whether one particular union believes it will be injured by such policies. So, some unions which believe themselves unaffected/less vulnerable to offshore outsourcing and H-1b might support Sen. Clinton.

Overall, I think that the arguments I've made are fully supported by the facts. But, some unions and union members may decide it's unimportant if Clinton supports policies which have injured many other American workers. Sadly, it comes down to people voting only for what they perceive as their own self-interest. Or, they may believe that Sen. Clinton is best positioned to "win" against a Republican candidate.

However, I think that the offshore outsourcing and guest worker replacement programs will ultimately be the undoing of our society and devastate many people who thought it had no affect on them. The permanent elimination of millions of middle class jobs has a "ripple effect" that just may be hidden for awhile or slow to appear, with some obvious differences evident in some regions compared to others.

The truth is that new middle class jobs are not being created to replace those that are being lost offshore or filled permanently by imported "guest workers".

I really do wonder what democratic principles Clinton supporters imagine would be advanced if Clinton became President. Sen. Clinton's economic policies are virtually indistinguishable from those of President Bush. Sen. Clinton is fully comfortable with the present arrangement of corporations dictating national labor policy and trade policy.

Over the past several years, Sen. Clinton has well understood the hardship caused by the offshore outsourcing of good middle class jobs but has done nothing about it. Indeed she has been a supporter of expanding the H-1b program used to facilitate offshore outsourcing and maintain an imported low-wage workforce.
