Global Warming the 2008 issue

The sleeper issue of the 2008 election campiagn is going to be global warming.  Recent events are creating a climate of panic amoung scientists as warming accelerates.  We can only hope it isn't to late to save ourselves.
In the last week we've had some really terrible events related to global climate change.  First was the news of the record low ice pack at the url north pole. In case you missed it sea ice at the north pole is now the lowest observered in 400 years of recorded observations.  The northwest passage was clear of ice.  The ice pack as of September 10 was a million square kilometers below the lowest recorded level (which was only in 2005). Forecasts for an ice free summer have been moved up 30 years ahead of where the UN report said we should be.  Greenland's ice which is the ice that will move sea level is melting so rapidly this summer that we are seeing earthquakes.
The second event was the rapid strengthening of Hurrican Humberto.  This storm went from a collectoin of thunderstorms off the coast of Texas to a full blow hurricane in under 24 hours.  If this storm had been over open water for another 24 hours it is likely it would have been a major huricane (catergory 3 or higher).  Where the UN report this summer painted a moderate view of global climate change that indicated we have decades to deal with this problem; we may be facing a crisis where we have only a few years to prevent a total catastrophe.

So who do you like? (TheGreenMiles - 9/14/2007 12:45:39 PM)
Humanfront, who's your favorite presidential candidate when it comes to addressing warming?

We're doomed (humanfont - 9/14/2007 2:51:05 PM)
None of the current crop of democratic canidates has any kind of record that leads me to think they would handle the issue.  There is one guy who isn't running that we need to solve this problem.  Someone needs to pull him aside and tell him to stop throwing rock concerts; and get his butt in the race.

Edwards? (TheGreenMiles - 9/17/2007 9:10:49 AM)
Of the major Dem candidates, Edwards seems to have the strongest plan ...
