As I told the folks when I began speaking at the Gloucester County Democratic Committee's Annual Seafood Dinner, speaking in public was not easy for me on the sixth anniversary of September 11th.  I paused and looked around the room as the expressions on people's faces reflected their memories of that tragedy.

I spoke of how we as Democrats have a different view of that tragedy.  How we would have focused on bringing the perpetrators to justice, not used their crime to misdirect the United States into the wrong war, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons as Bush and Republicans did in Iraq.

I spoke of the hope that rebuilding the Democratic Party in Virginia is bringing to working people across the Commonwealth.  How Democrats, even in a decidedly Republican area like Gloucester, should stand tall and be proud.  How Senator Jim Webb is working to insure the proper use of our military and how he understands the importance of working America.  How Governor Kaine stands out as an example of real family values.  How former Governor,  Mark Warner led Virginia to become the best managed state in the nation.
I spoke of the 2007 election and the importance of getting folks like John Adams back in office and how, because the local House of Delegate and Senate races are uncontested, they should support other Democrats across Virginia.  I told them how Bill Day, (former O'Donnell for Congress campaign manager, who spoke at the dinner last year) stood up in Virginia's 31st to run for Delegate and how he could use their help.

I spoke of the future of our Democratic Party as it goes forward and thanked each of them for what they have done to help Democrats and make Virginia an even better place to live.

My special thanks to all of the Gloucester County Democratic Committee members who made last evening possible especially Frank and Kathleen Gillerlain, Peg and Pat Cooney, Judy Vaughn, Jennie Handley, and Eldridge Cook (who donated all of the seafood for the festivities).  The food and fellowship were terrific!

As the program says, "September 11th will always be a special day in our hearts as Americans"
