Del. Miller,

You may have been aware that earlier this week literature was dropped across our district from the Ku Klux Klan. We can not sit idly by as one of the most divisive and hateful groups in American history spreads fear and mistrust throughout Manassas and Manassas Park.

We must stand united across the political spectrum against this reprehensible group. Tomorrow, I will be holding a press conference at 1pm to denounce the KKK's bigoted rhetoric. I ask you to stand with me at the press conference to keep hatred and bigotry out of our community.

We can not allow our community to slide to such extremes and let this fear mongering to go unchecked.

Respectfully,

Jeanette Rishell

Way to go haters. (jsrutstein - 9/5/2007 6:48:27 PM)
While BVBL and the rest of the anti-immigrant haters allege phony Zapatista involvement in the PWC boycott and stir up fears about ridiculous plots by Mexicans to retake the Southwest, their hateful activity has drawn real involvement by the KKK.  What's next?  I heard the Nazis were rallying in Nebraska against Mexicans.  If I lived in PWC, I'd much rather have undocumented Mexicans trying to earn an honest buck in my neighborhood than racist anti-semitic thugs.

The SPLC estimates that there are between 5000 and 8000 Klansmen in the United States, with at least four indigenous groups in Virginia.  These hate groups must be taken very seriously.  Their numbers are growing.

Somewhere between the two extremes... (floodguy - 9/6/2007 6:55:35 AM)
Somewhere b/n the two extremes, left ignoring immigration as an important issue and the right racist-leaning attitudes for total deportation of illegals, there is the right answer.  Its easy and fun to point out the right's negatives, but the left needs to look in the mirror.  Being silent on immigration has allowed the right's grassroot's effort to grow and gain on the matter, and now the KKK is getting mobilized.  If the left wants the direction on immigration to lead to a more positive development, they need to get involved just like they do against the KKK.

We all love immigrants because most of us are or had one or two parents or grandparents who were immigrants.  But lets not forget, we and our parents and grandparents were legal immigrants.
