"Karl Rove Politics" in the 45th District

This is utterly despicable ("Down and Dirty Politics: Callers in a recent poll were asked if they knew Englin voted for children to access porn.").  Sadly, it's par for the course these days in the "backwards not forwards," "tear people apart rather than bring them together" Republican Party of Virginia.

The quote from Englin's wife at the end of the linked article is the key.  Allen's dirty politics betrays how close to the bottom of the barrel he's come.  This type of push polling isn't designed to sway voters to vote for the pusher; it's designed to discourage turnout.  The best thing Dems can do is redouble their efforts to get out the vote on election day.  If people show up in greater than expected numbers for an odd-numbered year without a gubernatorial race at the top and with semi-successful efforts by VA GOP leaders (I'm looking at you, Tom Davis) to have certain Dems run unopposed, VA Dems should romp.  Let's propagate the meme that dirty campaigners like Allen are displaying just how weak they are.  Let's also put aside whatever problems we have with Gerry Connolly and point how his opponent served on the board of a completely phone GOP organization labeled as concerned about the environment, but functioned as a money laundering operation for convicted criminals like Jack Abramoff and Italia Federici.  It's not enough to laud the quality of our candidates.  We have to point out the huge and real, i.e., not made up like Allen's crap thrown at Englin, problems with our candidates' opponents.
