Craig Resigns

OK, that's not a big surprise. But this should be a happy day for Republicans. Their most recent embarrassment exits leaving Gov. "Butch" Otter (R-ID), with the task of appointing another Republican in his place, one who has a much better shot at keeping the seat in GOP hands next year than Larry Craig would have. BUT....Despite being caught red-handed (literally), Craig said he plans to, quote, "Fight this like hell."

Way to go Sen. Craig. Fight this thing for as long as you see fit. Even if it lasts until the fall of 2008. A constant reminder of Republican hypocrisy and homophobia, when voters go to the ballot box, will make this country a better place. Of course it could be all talk. I have a feeling after he sits down with a lawyer the odds of him pursuing this is about as likely as O.J. finding "the real killers."

What about Senator Vitter? (tx2vadem - 9/1/2007 8:40:19 PM)
He was a regular caller for the D.C. Madam's services.  Not only did he cheat on his wife, he supported prostitution.  Some how in the warped world of Republicanism, some indiscretions (heterosexual ones) are forgiven while others are punished.  This just proves they are homophobes and lack any real moral convictions.  It also underlines how Republicans don't believe in equality.  Because equality would demand Vitter's head as well.

How they look themselves in the mirror baffles me.  But I'm sure all that money helps.

It also proves (Chris Guy - 9/1/2007 10:04:42 PM)
that they care about their party more than they do their country. A Vitter resignation would mean a Democrat would probably replace him. Nice priorities huh?

They have to spend their tax giveaways (JohnB - 9/1/2007 10:11:19 PM)
Vitter was busy doing his Repug best to keep their black market economy going.  How else do you expect them to spend the additional $118,000 per million in tax giveaways they get?  Another shame of Craig was he wanted something illegal for free.

what about senator vitter (changeagent - 9/1/2007 11:16:20 PM)
Now that we are talking about Louisiana folks, what about William Jefferson from New Orleans?
From an internet source....

-- William Jefferson, D-La., indicted June 4 on federal charges of racketeering, money-laundering and soliciting more than $400,000 in bribes in connection with years of trying to broker business deals in Africa. Investigators raided Jefferson's Washington home and found $90,000 in cash stuffed in his freezer. He has denied wrongdoing.

Has Jefferson resigned?  He seemed to have droped off the radar screen.

Are there any other Democrats out there who need some looking at?  Or are only Republicans ethically challenged?  Or do Republicans bail too publically and quickly?

Louisiana Democrats (Chris Guy - 9/2/2007 12:37:18 AM)
tried to get rid of Jefferson, but he was re-elected in spite of these charges last year. I don't like it, but the people have spoken.

My lament (tx2vadem - 9/2/2007 12:38:21 PM)
was focused on the double standard Republicans have.  Senator Craig was forced out because of the gay issue.  This is the party that claims the mantle of moral purity.  But they turn only on their gay members.  That is not only duplicitous and bigoted, it is just a shitty thing to do to someone who has done nothing but tow the line for the Republican party.

As far as your points, I never asserted that Democrats do not have ethics issues they need to deal with.  As far as bailing to quickly, Republicans can't run fast enough from the outed gay members of their party.  But it is all love and forgiveness for their other sinners.  Senator Vitter can say I sinned and asked for God's forgiveness, and he keeps his seat.  But Sen. Craig can't do the same.  And that my friend is contemptible.

Not at all. (spotter - 9/2/2007 7:47:17 PM)
There are so many Republicans in so many different kinds of trouble (legal, moral, ethical, sexual, corruption, cover-ups, etc.) that we actually have no basis for making generalizations about any of them.  For example, compare this Republican list with this Republican list.  Of course, none of these lists are complete.  They each have a particular focus or theme, as it is probably humanly impossible to catalogue all such Republican failings.  Also, each list must be constantly updated in order to keep abreast of the important additions that continually occur.  Tough work.

And on the other hand, we have Ted Kennedy and William Jefferson and, I'm sure changeagent would add, Bill Clinton is to Blame-O!.

Ive had it with republicans (pvogel - 9/1/2007 11:27:04 PM)
Oficially, from now on they are the virus infecting america.
