Rep Drake to Sen Stolle: "Thank God you guys passed the abuser fees."

This remark made during a phone conversation paraphrased by Senator Stolle seems part and parcel of an abuser fee repackaging. Now the fees are safety assessments which, Representative Drake reportedly attests, have slowed the flow of traffic on the I-95 Richmond/DC raceway. They were instituted for our own good!
Additionally, Senator Stolle claimed, "It's something we wanted to accomplish when we passed the abuser fees." Further evidence that the fee scheme will not easily be put down, there is now a fairly elaborate "abuser fee math" used by the defense to show how large a number of points must be accumulated before the fees take affect and how only 2.5% of Virginians will ever be affected. The much discussed pregnant woman was characterized as having a long violation record. Admittedly, there is an issue with the reckless driving threshold; Senator Stolle says that that must be fixed.

However, given the record of Representative Drake's political acumen, it would not be surprising if the Republicans take this as a sign that it is time to drop abuser fees like a hot potato (or potatoe if you are Republican).  Just last week she defended the progress of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's administration just as the Bush administration was perched to report failures of the Iraqi leadership. Nothing like being on the outside looking in. That was part two of a one-two punch; the first delivered by Senator Warner.

I look forward to the tone of Delegate Leo Wardrup's presentation on transportation this Saturday for evidence he recognizes the international sign to run for cover: Representative Drake taking up your cause.

Straight from the horse's (Stolle) mouth... (dsvabeachdems - 8/31/2007 6:18:56 AM)
Speaking to fellow Virginia Beach Republicans.

Dan, bless his heart, (elevandoski - 8/31/2007 7:09:54 AM)
regularly attends their Republican breakfasts. Then rushes home and takes a shower. Just kidding!!  Actually, most of the time following their lame little love-fests, Dan rushes over to campaign HQ, grabs a clipboard and heads out to do some canvassing for our House candidates.

Wanna add this comment... (elevandoski - 8/31/2007 8:13:20 AM)
This comment from one of our regulars at VB Dems needs to be added here:

"Like everything else, she needs someone to explain traffic jams to her. Thelma Drake is an absolute moron. I have had several conversations with her and  I am now convinced that she is not 'all there.'

I was at the Holiday Inn Executive Center on the night she announced her camapign for the House (after Schrock's pipe smoking was discovered). I stood close to her and listened as some of Schrock's aides basically told her everything to say (over and over and over again)...and she still screwed it up.

She suspended her appearances on WNIS's Tony Macrini in the Morning for a while because her performances were so embarassing. She could only tell callers "Why don't you tell me?", when they asked her a question.

The funniest thing I ever heard her say occurred when she was talking about Oceana and whether or not the Navy would close the base. She went on and on about how important the "master jets" are which are based at Oceana. She talked for about ten minutes about the capabilities of these incredible "master jets," until someone explained to her that there are no "master jets," but that Oceana is a Master Jet Base!"

When is her term up? (vadem - 9/3/2007 8:21:33 AM)
Was it just last year she was re-elected?  Surely, the fine people in her district wouldn't send her back.
